Training at the Adolescent Department of the Tavistock
Clinic, London
Maria Tchomarova was a clinically associated
student with the right to practice at the Adolescent
Department of the Tavistock Clinic, London. She took
and successfully passed two post-graduate courses (Communicating
With Young People: Adolescent Mental Health; Understanding
Trauma: Principles and Practice); participated in An
Infant Observation Seminar, and various workshops as
well as took a caseload of patients of both genders
and with a number of different psychological problems.
As a part of her training in the clinic Maria Tchomaroca
was offered individual and group supervision on each
of these cases. Since her return in September 2000,
she has headed the development of new programmes for
adolescents at the Rehabilitation Center for Women,
Adolescents and Children Survivors of Violence.
Three new Programmes were implemented
in the year.
A direct result of her training is the
clinical and theoretical seminar after the Tavistock
model, which started in October 2000 as part of the
training Programme of "Animus Association"
Foundation. This seminar is held at the Animus office
every Tuesday from 9.30 to 12 o'clock. Its first part
consists of clinical discussion of cases, and the second
part is a discussion of materials related to the respective
cases. All members of the Animus team (11 therapists)
take part in this seminar as well as representatives
of three services in support of women survivors of violence,
which are based in the country and have adopted the
Animus model - two representatives of Animus-Pernik,
and one representative each of Animus-Plovdiv and Animus-Dobrich.
These seminars give all members of the team and their
colleagues from the country the opportunity of sharing
their knowledge and helping the implementation of high
professional standards of work. They offer a possibility
of exchanging ideas, discussing difficult cases and
ensure the help of the more experienced therapists for
the younger ones, which proves to be very stimulating
and valuable in the professional work and in the end
good for both the clients of the Center and the services
in the country and the team members.
